Using mezzanine floors to increase space for your commercial space

Having limited storage and floor space is problematic for every business. If you’re looking for a fast, cost-efficient way to make the most of your existing space, without moving to a different location, then mezzanine floors are the right option for you. If the height of the room is at least 4.5 metres, then modular mezzanines are straightforward to install without any major work or cost.

Configuring a mezzanine floor with an office for factories

A partition wall system or factory office is a great option if your business has lots of people coming and going or if your factory needs to be upgraded, but you don’t want to commit to a large investment. When combined with mezzanine floors, they enable you to create new workspaces that weren’t there before. This can be handy if you’re looking to create a quiet workplace for your warehouse manager or foreman.

Regulations for mezzanine floors and elevated workplaces?

All modular offices are subject to numerous regulations. This includes steel platforms, which are erected at a height; there are a large number of regulations, guidelines and instructions that apply and must be observed.

Adding railings to mezzanine floors for safety

For modular mezzanines, railings are one of the most important safety elements, required to protect your employees. The railings must comply with many regulations, including:

    • Minimum height 1 m (up to a fall height of 12 m)

    • When the fall height is 12 m or more, the minimum height is 1.10 m

    • Knee rail at a max. distance of max. 50 cm to foot rail and handrail

    • Foot rail with a minimum height of 5 cm

    • Only lockable doors at loading and unloading points, which open inwards (towards the mezzanine floor)

While it is good to be aware of these requirements of railings for mezzanine floors, it’s best to order the correct accessories in the right format from the start. This is something we can help you with. Explore our recommendations on the relevant product pages or get in touch with us with any specific questions you have.

    Industrial steps for mezzanine floors

Just like the railing, the industrial stairways for mezzanine floors must also meet certain standards, which involve handrails and fall protection. For example, steps of industrial mezzanines must be equipped with two handrails if they are free-standing or one if they are installed against a wall.

Installing and setting up a mezzanine floor

Our steel mezzanine floors are as easy to assemble as our storage containers are. Not only are they easy to build, they’re also extremely versatile. Once a mezzanine floor has been built and bolted together, it could easily be disassembled and moved elsewhere.

During assembly and reconstruction of your mezzanine floors, however, it’s important to observe regulations. Here at kaiserkraft, we’d be more than happy to help you with our on-site assembly service. Commission us and we’ll send the professionals to your company to complete the set up. We’ll also plan the layout and configuration of your industrial mezzanines, making sure they comply with regulations.
