You don't have to reinvent wheels, but you can improve them

Whenever there is something to transport, nothing moves without wheels. This most important invention of mankind does not need to be reinvented. But our product range shows that with the right details you can make your business processes, even more, dynamic.

Wheels or castors: what's the difference?

The difference between wheels and castors is the design: castors are an assembly comprised of a wheel and housing with a specific fastening device. Wheels are attached directly to an axle.

Wheels and castors are designed to make progress with pallet trucks and other transport equipment and trolleys particularly easy, convenient and safe. To do so, they must withstand certain loads and be adapted to the floor covering and the working environment.

Wheels achieve this through the interplay of four essential factors:

  • Tyres/covering made of a suitable material for certain floors and working environments

  • Rims made of a specific material to optimise the load bearing capacity/max. load

  • Diameter, wheel width etc. suitable for the respective transport device

  • Design and quality of ball, roller or plain bearing

Depending on the combination of these factors, the wheels and castors in our product range exhibit one or more advantages, which we illustrate for you by means of pictograms. Important characteristics are:

  • Low rolling resistance

  • Non marking, because abrasion-free use on almost all floors

  • Low material wear

  • High load bearing capacity with small size

Details about the floor conditions and the specific suitability of the wheels are always available on the product page.

Which materials for wheels are most useful for everyday operations?

The materials that our wheels and castors are made of, determine the running properties and comfort:

  • Solid rubber is one of the most popular wheel materials because it is smooth, quiet, relatively adaptable and inexpensive. However, its strength is finite. This is different from two-component solid rubber wheels, which run more smoothly but still have a lower rolling resistance.

  • Polyamide or nylon as tyres and rims is always used when you need a particularly impact and shock resistant, chemical resistant and wear resistant material. The load capacity is very high even when small diameters are used, and the wheel is also designed for large temperature fluctuations.

  • Polyurethane as a non-wearing tyre is a perfect covering for sensitive floors. Depending on the version, PU is resistant to high temperatures and chemicals. In addition, it offers a smooth and quiet run.

  • Grey cast iron wheels are the first choice when it comes to demanding use, as they are virtually maintenance-free and absolutely robust. However, these wheels are not designed for floor protection or smooth running.

The purchasing guide to wheels and castors offers further insights into the details of the product range.

Can every employee change wheels?

As long as no safety regulations to the contrary apply for a transport device or a trolley, every employee may change the wheels. The installation and assembly of the products are self-explanatory. It is only important that the functionality of the device is tested again after the wheels have been replaced before use.
