SiS Li-Ion Basic Charge EI 90 battery charging safety cabinet – LaCont without fire suppression system

The LaCont LI-ION Basic Charge EI 90 battery cabinet is the ideal entry-level model for the active and passive storage of lithium-ion batteries, with a main focus on fire protection.

The robust overall construction, tested by the Material Testing Institute (MPA) Dresden, has a fire resistance of 90 minutes from inside and outside (EI90) according to DIN EN 1363-1. Thanks to all-round, intumescent fire protection seals that automatically expand in the event of fire, the LaCont LI-ION Basic protects against fires inside the cabinet, whereby the emission of smoke and toxic fumes is minimised. The aim here is to gain time for the evacuation of people in the vicinity and for the fire brigade to initiate extinguishing measures.

Further standard equipment includes an integrated ventilation system with smoke detector and fan (for power supply shutdown), height-adjustable grid storage levels, each with a load capacity of 75 kg (with evenly distributed load), a plinth with a cover that can be accessed by a forklift for easy transport, as well as fire-resistant cable glands for customer-side installation of fire detectors or potential-free contacts.

Construction made of non-combustible building material (Class A2-s1, d0 according to DIN EN 13501-1) including coating (body aluminium-coloured / doors RAL 1023 – traffic yellow), galvanised sheet steel sump, 17 litre collection volume.

Control unit of the SiS Li-Ion Basic Charge EI 90:

– Fault message via optical signal and shutdown of the ventilation system, as well as extinguishing generator with power-independent activation in case of fire and impermissible temperature increase
– Automatic shutdown of the fan integrated in the cabinet upon smoke detection
– Optical status display informs about the current status of the cabinet (fire detection, ventilation unit, power strips)
– In the event of fire, the ventilation unit is automatically shut down to reduce air circulation
– The power supply can be manually interrupted in the event of fire by pressing the mains switch on the control unit
– No standard acoustic alarm in the event of fire – subsequent installation of fire detectors or potential-free contacts is possible on the customer side, thanks to fire-resistant cable entries present in the cabinet
– Rated voltage 230 volts, 1-phase 16A fusing

Functionality when equipped with a fire suppression system (aerosol extinguishing generator), with power-independent activation in case of fire or impermissible temperature increase from 180 °C:
The activation of the solid material contained in the extinguishing generator creates an aerosol of solid and gaseous particles. These spread throughout the cabinet in milliseconds, displacing oxygen, diluting flammable gases, and thereby initiating the extinguishing process. Thus, the aerosol intervenes in the chemical chain reaction of the fire process, among other things by displacing oxygen, and interrupts it. If the fire suppression system is not activated, the maintenance-free service life is 10 years.
