Cartridge operated fire extinguishers keep the extinguishing agent and propellant gas separate. The propellant cartridge is only opened by the trigger valve immediately before operation. The container filled with powder is therefore not permanently pressurised. The risk of leakage and pressure loss is significantly lower than for permanent pressure extinguishers.
